Squishmallow fanatics will love this new cottagecore exploration game
Imagine being a huge spherical, radial frog, soaking in crystal clear water. Although I won’t be able to experience that bliss, games such as these are a good substitute. Island Skies – Puff Pals I can be transported into this world. This adorable game allows you to make new friends and explore the world of animals.
We have enormous amphibians and more in Cool WIP, Polygon’s weekly roundup of eye-catching clips and screenshots of works in progress. Every week, Polygon’s staff searches the Internet for new and exciting games to show you samples of their most recent projects.
This week, we feature a stealth game that features a raccoon as well as a deckbuilder with sea animals, an adorable trading sim and one very large caterpillar.
These animals are reminiscent of Squishmallows
Fluffnest shared a clip of its fantasy-like exploration and farming game Island Skies – Puff Pals. These adorable creatures look just like Squishmallows’ stuffed toys, with their plump and round design. Previous trailers featured farming and exploring the glowing universe. But this new trailer shows more. new clip showed a friend you might encounter while exploring: a giant frog that’s just vibing. Puff Pals is currently in development, and you can check out everything planned on the game’s Kickstarter page.
Only a wandering trash panda
Christian Sparks, a digital artist who is also a game developer and designer for a game called Snaccoon. Sparks posted a little scene showing a raccoon, lovingly called a “trash panda,” walking through a street. In a developer’s blog, Sparks says that it’s part of an ongoing side project that’s a stealth and exploration game where you play as the critter. This animation shows the raccoon running along the street. It is adorable! You can follow Spark’s work on Twitter.
You can fight it as amazing sea creatures
Astrea: Six-Sided OraclesThis game combines deck-building and dice mechanics with a roguelike. Little Leo Games developed the game. It features ocean-critters inspired fighters like squids. The character designs are stellar, so if you’re an ocean nerd or into deck-building, be sure to check it out. The developer has provided a clip that shows the giant, ax-wielding shark confronting an unknown, cloaked Squid. The Steam site has more details about the game.
I’m only traveling by a giant air blimp shaped like a shark from now on
The TownseekThis is a trading simulation where you explore a map in order to find new towns and trade with others. Whales and Games created the game’s art style, which makes it look almost like a coloring book. From the looks of it, you can even change which air blimp you use to travel around; however, I’m partial to the shark-shaped one. Follow the blog for more updates developer’s Twitter account.
Yes, wiggle wiggle and wiggle.
It’s been a big couple of weeks for procedurally created creatures. We saw last week a procedurally merged game. This week we see a procedurally animated caterpillar. One clip from a developerJoe demonstrated the little critter wriggling its way around trees. Joe’s page is full of other creepy-crawlies, so check out his Twitter page for more of his work.
