Sports Story Surprise Launches Today

SideBar Games and Nintendo announced Sports Story during an Inside the House of Indies holiday special. It comes just a month after SideBar Games announced that the December 2022 release window was available for its long-awaited follow-up to Golf Story, which it released in 2017.

Golf Story provided players a retro-styled RPG with a zany story centered around golf of all kinds: regular, disc, and more. SideBar Games’ Sports Story expands the game to incorporate other events like BMX, hockey, cricket, soccer and volleyball. Don’t fret if you enjoyed the Golf Story golf course. Sports Story will bring eight different golf courses.

SideBar Games’ precursor to Sports Story, Golf Story arrived on Switch in September 2017. Our review called it “a breathe of fresh air in sports” and gave it a rating of 9/10. SideBar Games first announced Sports Story in December 2019. The development team remained silent for long periods. Finally, developers revealed that the game will arrive in December 2022 during the Nintendo Indie World Showcase last month.
