Splatoon 3 Nintendo Direct: Every announcement and new feature
Splatoon 3 will bring a wealth of new content — in the form of new weapons, stages, battle techniques, fashionable accessories, and even a tabletop collectible card game — when the sequel comes to Nintendo Switch this September.
Nintendo gave a deep dive into Nintendo Direct’s world Wednesday with a brand new presentation. Splatoon 3, detailing what’s coming at launch and what’s expected over the next two years of post-release content. Here’s a rundown of everything new and confirmed for Splatoon 3From that link.
Neue Weapons
Splatoon 3 will bring back all the weapons from previous Splatoon games, but at least two new weapon types are available: The bow-like Tri-Stinger which fires a wide shot of paint and can also be charged for powerful shots; and the Splatana wiper, a sword-like windshield wiper that releases waves of ink. You can charge it up to make a strong slash.
You can also acquire new weapons during battle. There are the Tacticooler which is filled with stat-boosting beverages, the Wave Breaker that emits sound waves and the Reefslider that’s a shark-shaped float. It explodes, spewing ink everywhere. Tenta Missiles (formerly known as Inkjet), Ink Storm and Ultra Stamp, along with the Booyah Bomb, are also back.
The New Stages
It wouldn’t be a competitive multiplayer game without new places to fight, and Splatoon 3Scorch Gorge and Eeltail Alley will all be added to the series. It will also bring back stages from previous games, including Museum d’Alfonsino, Hammerhead Bridge and Mahi-Mahi Resort. Nintendo has promised 12 stages upon launch. Additional features will be available in future updates.
Personalization
There will be many new styles for the Inklings, Octolings and Splatlands’ fashionable Inklings. Splatoon 3. Retailers like Naut Couture, run by laidback nautilus Gnarly Eddy, a laid back nautilus, sell hats, masks, and glasses; Man o’ Wardrober, run by Jel la Fleur, sells tops, T-shirts, and jackets; and Mr. Coco’s Crush Station will get you into some new shoes, sandals, or slides. You will get perks with all that gear, and Murch the guy will allow you to swap out gear items for perks.
You can customize your win emotes and Splashtag, a nameplate that includes backgrounds, titles and badges. Also, you will have an online locker visible to all players. Hotlantis is a retail store that will offer customization options. New catalogs will be available every few months.
Tableturf Battle, a collectible card game
You can play this card-based game of battle in Splatoon 3’s lobby. Collect 150 cards Splatoon 3Players will create a deck for battle with other players. Each player will receive an in-game starter card.
Free and “large-scale” paid DLC
Nintendo has promised at least 2 years of support after launch for Splatoon 3. This includes new gear, weapons and maps. Nintendo plans to update the game with the X Battle, League Battle and other modes. After achieving an exceptionally high rank, X Battle cannot be unlocked. Splatoon 3’s Anarchy Battle — a competitive ranked mode — and League Battle will let players compete every two hours in teams based on their Anarchy Battle results.
Splatfest returns
The Deep Cut Trio Frye, Shiver and Big Man will host the Splatfest multiplayer events. This year, there’s a new twist to the event: it features three teams, with three themes. On Aug. 27, Team Rock, Team Paper and Team Scissors will face off.
Salmon Run Returns… Bigger than Ever
Splatoon’s take on Horde Mode, Salmon Run, lets four players team up to collect Power Eggs from enemies called Salmonids. Salmon Run will be available at anytime in Splatoon 3, and players will now face Boss Salmonids, including the new Slammin’ Lid and the Big Shot. Even bigger is Cohozuna, a new “King Salmonid super-giant Salmonid.”
