Sony now requires devs to make 2-hour game trials for PlayStation Plus Premium

A new Game Developer report claims that Sony will ask some PlayStation Game Developers to make trial versions for their games to test the changes being made to its PlayStation Plus subscription. The trial versions should last no less than two hours, regardless of whether the purchased game is more expensive ($34 or more).

This news follows Sony’s June announcement that it will be revamping PlayStation Plus and adding new subscription levels. PlayStation Plus Premium now offers a new level of service that includes time-limited games and classic titles from different generations.

Sony will reportedly give developers up to three months after a game’s launch on the PlayStation Store to release a timed trial. Sony may approve demos submitted by developers in place of trial versions. According to Game Developer sources, the requirements do not go backwards and will not be applicable for new PlayStation VR titles.

Polygon reached Sony Interactive Entertainment to get their comments.

PlayStation Plus Premium, Sony’s new service that will include these new trial versions, will be available for $119.99 annually or $17.99 monthly starting in June.
