Sons of the Forest’s intro is very scary, and can vary greatly

Sons of the ForestThe game begins in the same manner as other horror games. The protagonist is in a helicopter and ponders his mission. Our hero joins a team of professionals and copters. He is granted access and can browse his computer.

After the character checks out the billionaire families he must rescue, and closes his laptop it’s all chaos. But the opening has an interesting twist — there are multiple ways that the chaos can play out, and it’s tied to your starting location.

Because this is a survival game with scary elements, I wasn’t particularly surprised when the copter went down in a fiery wreck. Is this what you are looking for? This was The outcome of the crash was quite surprising. Sometimes, the helicopter crashes onto a mountain peak and throws the protagonist from his seat. Only to see the helicopter tumble after him. Sometimes, the helicopter plunges into water, forcing survivors to swim towards the surface. Another scenario is that the helicopter winds up wrapped around a tree branch. The pilot attempts to free himself from the wreckage, but our protagonist is horrified and falls to his death.

The intro remains the same, despite the changes in scenery and details. There will always be a guy in a weird jumpsuit who shows up and knocks the protagonist out, you’ll always find your buddy Kelvin with an apparent brain injury, and you’ll find some survival supplies scattered around the crash. But the table setting makes individual playthroughs feel a little different, and it makes the island feel more dangerous — after all, this forest is just full of surprises, and multiple intros are the least of the revelations in store.

We’ve reached out to developer Endnight for more details on how the intros are selected and how many variations are available, and will update when the studio responds.
