Sonic Frontiers 2023 Roadmap Includes Free Updates That Add Modes, Skins, And Playable Characters

Sonic Frontiers, which was published at the beginning November, received one of the best reviews from critics and fans of all 3D Sonic the Hedgehog titles. In my review, I praised many elements of Sonic Team’s first “open-zone” attempt, but my main takeaway was, “I can’t wait to see how Sonic Team iterates on this formula in future entries.” Even though those future entries may be many years away, we were able to see how the developer plans on expanding Sonic Frontiers in 2023 via a content roadmap.

Sonic Frontiers 2023 contains a number of new content additions to the game. Sonic Frontiers players will receive the three updates over 2023 without additional costs. It’s not clear when Update 2 will be available, but it is likely that Update 2 will come out sometime between June 2023 and June 2023. June is also the anniversary for Sonic Frontiers. Update 2 simply lists “Sonic’s Birthday” as the main part of the update, though no information is provided.

But, Sonic can still get a Holiday Cheer Suit DLC for free (pictured above). The December 21st DLC is available for free.

3. Update

• The Playable Characters
• A New Story

Update 3 looks most significant as it promises both new story elements and additional playable characters. Although it is not certain, the image suggests that Tails, Knuckles and Amy will be the playable characters. However, those images may be closer to the story element of the update. But, Update 1’s new Challenge Mode and Open Zone Challenge are exciting to me. Update 2 will also have a new Koco and a new Koco.
