Shazam 2 trailer introduces Rachel Zegler to the DCEU at SDCC 2022

DC kicked off today’s Warner Bros. San Diego Comic-Con panel on a high note with the first trailer for the upcoming Shazam! Next, the title Shazam! Fury of Gods.

Shazam! Fury for the GodsAsher Angel and Zachary Levi return to the role of their hero. Rachel Zegler plays one of the Daughters of Atlas. This godly, comics-free group appears to be the movie’s antagonists. Helen Mirren is portrayed by Lucy Liu, and Kalypso by Lucy Liu are the Daughters of Atlas. Grace Fulton, Jack Dylan Grazer and Adam Brody return as well. Film will release Dec. 21.

In the clip, Shazam narrates a quick overview of his own life, swoons over Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and makes the requisite reference to another superhero with a lightning bolt on his costume — but the trailer cuts away before we can see whether it’s Ezra Miller in the role again.

Fury of GodsDavid F. Sandberg returns to the film’s director chair. Shazam!Henry Gayden, Fast and Furious’s writer will also be back for the sequel. He will work with Chris Morgan as co-writer. As you might expect, the trailer is full of Easter eggs, including nods to Starro, Titano the super-ape, and Karaqan from Aquaman, as well as references to Sandberg’s and Morgan’s previous work on Annabelleand Fast and Furious.

Fury of Gods was originally set for release in 2023, until it was involved in DC’s massive release date shake-up. After all of the studio’s changes, Shazam! Fury for the GodsThe release date was moved from December 2022 to Dec. 21, and then bumped up one more to the current Dec. 21 release. Shazam 2 Now, preceded by Black AdamOctober 21, followed by Aquaman and The Lost KingdomIt will be available on March 17, 2023.
