DC SDCC 2022 panel: News, trailers, announcements, and more

Warner Bros.’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 was one of the most highly anticipated of the year, and there were a few updates and announcements for audiences to dig into.

As we entered the panel, there were updates to be expected. Black AdamIt is the Shazam! Follow up, Aquaman sequel, Wonder Woman 3, The Batman 2(and potential other) Batman Spin-offs) and perhaps, an update on The Flash. Was that what we got? The Rock hopes Black Adam and the Justice Society will give the DCEU a “new start”

Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming anti-hero movie is the next live-action DC movie on the docket, and will be introducing the Justice Society. It was originally scheduled for July release but it was delayed due to Warner Bros. scheduling changes. A new trailer was released, showing Viola Davis’s Amanda Waller, more of the Justice Society, and a red, horned new villain (although it appears that part was cut from the version that was released online).

Johnson was first seen onstage in costume. He then changed into something more cape-focused. Johnson spoke about the Justice Society giving DC Universe a fresh start and how they can help it grow. One fan asked him who would win a fight between Black Adam, and Superman, to which Johnson retorted “Depends who’s playing Superman,” to screams from the crowd. But

A new trailer for Shazam! Fury of the Gods features the antagonists and Rachel Zegler

In 2019, the first surprise came back. Shazam! movie was the kind of good-natured family fun you’d hope for from this particular character. Coming into SDCC, we’d already seen Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu as villainous ancient goddesses. The new trailer gave us much more of Mirren (including a moment where Zachary Levi’s Billy Batson says he’s seen all the Fast and the Furious movies, the latest of which starred Mirren) and our first look at West Side Story Rachel Zegler is the star of the movie as Rachel Zegler with glowing hands.

The Warner Bros. schedule changes saw this movie move from December 2023 to December 2022.

There are no updates for any other projects and particularly not The Flash.

It was possible that there would be some news about the sequel. AquamanWonder Woman 3, or any other upcoming Wonder Woman movies. Batman Following-ups BatgirlMovie, or The Static Shock movie — basically, Anything Learn more about these other projects. Nope. But it was only those trailers.

Most importantly, no new updates were made. Flash. DC’s most troubled project is in a bit of crisis mode, in part thanks due to the off-set behavior of lead actor Ezra Miller. It has been in production for a while, so Ben Affleck was added to the film’s cast in late 2018. A trailer of the movie dropped in October 2021. It has faced many delays since then.

The Flash was absent from the event with no updates on this project. The Flash did make one appearance — a brief one, in the trailer for the new Shazam! movie — but even then, the character’s face was carefully covered or obscured at all times (see above for The Flash Without A Face).
