Sega Cancels Creative Assembly’s Hyenas And ‘Some Unannounced Titles’

Sega, the publisher behind next month’s Sonic Superstars, has canceled some unannounced titles in development and Creative Assembly’s first-person shooter, Hyenas. This is due to “lower profitability in the European region.”

Sega has cancelled Hyenas and other games that were not announced, due to the decreased profitability. The closed beta for PC was just completed less than one week before. Eurogamer Reports indicate that Creative Assembly will be laying off staff as a result of the decision.

Sega’s press release states: “We are implementing reduction of fixed costs at various group companies, with a focus on Creative Assembly Ltd. In the relevant regions.” The reduction in fixed costs will result in one-time expenditures. In addition to the above, we will consider other measures that can improve profitability at European bases. Once we take a decision, the impact and specifics will be announced.

Sega reports that due to this structural reform it is expecting to suffer losses of around 14,3 billion yen in its fiscal year to March 31, 2020. “There are currently no changes made to the projected full-year results of the consolidated operations for the fiscal years ending March 31, 2030.”

Sega revealed Hyenas as a first-person multiplayer, multi-team heist shooter experience set in space with a punky comic book aesthetic in 2022. Recent closed betas have allowed players to play it.
