Sea of Thieves Season 10 update adds Safer Seas, a PvE-only mode

Sail in Sea of Thieves Risk has always been inherent in the game. There are a lot of things to fear, including ghosts ships and sea monsters. But other players may also roam around and look for food. There’s a consistent PvP element to most parts of the game, and it gives the otherwise cheerful world a tense edge. Rare has announced today that Season 10 will be the last season of Sea of ThievesSafer Seas is an alternate chill-out game mode.

Safer Seas, a new game mode in which players can experience all the features of the game but without PvP. It will allow players to progress up to level 40 with all Trading Companies except Athena’s Fortune and the Reaper’s Bonus. Gold and Reputation will be reduced, but Seasonal Renown will be gained at the same rate as the original game mode, now called “High Seas.” Jumping into Safer Seas will allow players to experience the Tall Tales quest content, earn achievements, and provide a better environment to learn the ropes of the pirate simulation game.

High Seas is the main way to play the game. This includes the Captaincy Features and Pirate Legends content at the end of the game. You can also claim your ship as a Trading Company Emissary. Safer Seas is a good way to try out the new features that Rare added to the game over the years, without constantly listening for enemy cannonballs.

Season 10 Sea of ThievesGuilds are also included. Guilds can have up to 24 members, who sail together under the same banner and motto. Guilds operate asynchronously; even if players aren’t online, they can help each other out. For instance, players can pledge their customized Captaincy ships, allowing their friends to take them out for a spin — even if the ship’s owner is not in the session, or even online.

There’s also a new competitive Voyage called The Skull of Siren Song. Players will race against other crews to find a locked chest and a key; after opening the chest with the key, they’ll find the skull inside, which should be brought to Captain Briggsy. The Skull of Siren Song allows all players on the server to participate in the hunt, adding a bit of spice. It is an extremely powerful weapon, which shoots frost waves and slows any ship lucky enough to be carrying it.

The launch of Season 10 is scheduled for October 19. Sea of ThievesXbox Game Pass is required to access the Xbox One version.
