SDCC 2022 Live-action Last Airbender movie will star Aang and friends as adults

At today’s Avatar of The Last Airbender panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Nickelodeon’s Avatar Studios announced the subject of its first live-action Avatar movie. This movie, unlike the Netflix live-action series, Bryan Konietzko, and Michael DiMartino, the creators of the original Avatar TV show, will feature the adventures and friendships of Aang as young adults.

Janet Varney, Voice actress, recorded a message to her fans during the panel. Nickelodeon then tweeted it for all of the world:

“There have been a lot of rumors floating around, a lot of speculation, and a lot of excitement — I feel it too,” Varney said, looking up from a copy of an Avatar tie-in novel. “But we figured it was time to set the record straight. The first feature-length movie from Avatar Studios will be focusing on Avatar Aang and his friends.”

Aang was the star. Avatar for The Last AirbenderSometimes referred to as Avatar of the Legend of AangHowever, as Avatar Korra, Varney voiced Avatar Korra who had at least one past life and one to go. Varney voiced Avatar Korra, Aang’s successor and star of The Legend of Korra: Avatar, which took place decades after Aang’s time. And fans have shown fierce interest in avatars past, as well, like the warrior woman Avatar Kyoshi, the star of the novel seen in Varney’s hands.

The panel claims that the new movie will feature Aang and his young friends in a period not seen before on Avatar. And that’s a pretty tantalizing mystery for fans as well.
