SDCC 2022: Batman is squaring off against Spawn… again

Here’s something only ’90s kids will understand: Batman and Spawn are together again in a comic book for the first time since 1994.

At DC’s Jim Lee & Friends panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the publisher announced a number of marquee titles — and one of the biggest surprises was a Batman/Spawn crossover comic, a ’90s redux few likely expected.

Spawn creator Todd McFarlane wrote this article with Greg Capullo as the artBatman, Dark Knights of the Metal), Batman/Spawn#1 will debut on December 13th as a one-shot of 48 pages.

The third meeting between the characters will take place. First, there was an 1994 short called “One-shot Title.” Spawn/BatmanThe first, by Frank Miller and McFarlane with art by McFarlane was published by Image Comics. Both comics were pretty standard (if violent) crossover fare, where the two characters meet, fight, and eventually realize they’re after the same person. A tale as old and as timeless as time. It’s like the masked crimefighters that operate in the dark, but love elaborate caps.

DC claims that additional information and artwork will soon be released. But, Todd McFarlane, in an interview from 2017, stated that he has a plan for a sequel. Spawn/BatmanIn my mind, to write with Greg Capullo. But that didn’t happen. What do you think? Batman/Spawn Is that comic what he was thinking then? Maybe. Could this become part of Spawn Universe, the rapidly growing universe? What isn’t, these days?
