Roundup’s Don Lee reveals the secrets to his punches, John Wick casting

There’s nobody like Don Lee.

Ma Dong Seok is also known by his stage name Ma Dongseok. The hulking Korean actor has become a household name with his imposing frame, brutal blows and charming personality. Polygon and the actor exchanged emails, in which they discussed his philosophy of action, his influences and the fact that he almost appeared in John Wick. They also talked about his opinions on the new film. Trains to Busan remake.

These movies really show off your boxing skills. I’ve read you wanted to be a boxer when you were younger. What does your boxing background bring to the role you play?

What’s most crucial to you in making compelling action in the modern era?

Action in movies can take many forms. There are many types of action in films, including those involving car chases, weapons, fantasy, etc. I’m most interested in action that includes bare-handed fighting without weapons. After years of boxing, I even tried to train as a professional. The core action scenes for The Roundup: There’s No Way outIs boxing. It’s not easy to incorporate real boxing into action movies.

The coordination with the team is crucial. Heo, my martial-arts instructor, has been with me 20 years. He and the other stuntmen in the film understand what I want. We can create realistic action scenes. I still train daily in boxing and spar with boxers.

In your opinion, which action directors and actors are best at it? What are some of your favorite action movies recently?

The Roundup movies have a lot of high-impact punching, with the action, camerawork, and sound design all working in coordination to suggest you’re really slugging fools. In these films, how much physical contact can you expect? What’s your philosophy on full-contact action?

It’s important to look realistic, but safety is paramount. While we never actually hit a co-star’s face, there are shots where we need to hit each other’s bodies. In such situations, actors wear protective gear. The hit can be so powerful that even with caution, it will almost impact organs. It was a challenge to create these types of scenes, but I made sure that the action looked real.

What impact does physical disparity have on how you handle a fight? The majority of your opponents are smaller but you have to also deal with the bouncer who is larger. There is No Way OutWhat are your options for changing your mindset?

As my adversaries, I have actors from various weight categories, such as middleweight and super heavyweight. Because I place a high priority on boxing action realism I will move quickly in certain scenes as a fighter, and focus more power in other scenes. Boxing matches can be won by a single or even two punches. If you are hit with bare hands and without gloves in real life you’ll be knocked unconscious instantly. In that scene, I tried to show that. It is my goal to make realistic action scenes that audiences can enjoy.

Has the global audience’s ability to easily watch and access your film changed your approach in any way?

It is possible to transcend language barriers by using the universal language that film provides. My imagination is not limited by the size or budget of a production or plan. In exploring and imagining, without being restricted by practical constraints or production limitations, I think more compelling content will be created. Hollywood is similar to the Korean Film Industry in that the staff and actors work very hard together for a successful movie. The biggest difference between the two is language. Hollywood movies use English while Korean films are in Korean. But under the common language named “movie,” people can communicate with each other beyond the language barrier. Marvel Pictures’ experiences inspired me greatly to expand and design the fictional world when I made the film.

What was your reaction to the news that there will be a Hollywood Trains to Busan Timo Tjahjanto remake directed by?
