Rimworld’s BioTech expansion will let you have kids (finally)
New RimWorldExpanding the site will allow for more entertainment options that delight and horrify fans of the simulation game. It is now called BiotechThis expansion allows colonists to be upgraded and can control menacing mechanical mechanoids. They can also have babies, raise children, or genetically modify their parents, all to create more efficient colony workers.
RimWorldThis is a game about managing a Sci-Fi colony. It entails protecting three colonies that have crashed-landed on an alien planet. You will need to provide food for your pawns and shelter them from hostile outsiders. RimWorld was recently ported to PlayStation and Xbox with updated controls to navigate the game’s dense UI. Biotech is the game’s third expansion, after RoyaltyAnd Theology.
Babies are a major resource sink, as they require love, shelter, and caregiving — or you could just pop them into a growth vat for a relatively speedy upbringing. The players will need to be able entertain, educate, and mold the children into new colonists. Each child can have a choice of traits and skills as they grow up.
You can create or find a brain implant to allow players psychically control one of the most common enemy types, mechanoids. RimWorld. Players can grow their own mechanoids, and there’s a whole new lineup joining the centipede, lancer, and scyther models. Build mechanoids for harvesting your crops or cooking your meals.
Finally, players can make xenohumans by gene-modding. You can have a colony full of powerful beastmen and furry or immortal big brain geniuses who are super-soldiers. Players may also stumble upon xenohumans at random, who might have some genes one could call vampiric. Players will have to keep an eye out for potential dangers in neighboring colonies, such as fiery imps and shadowy blood-drinkers.
Biotech will be out “in a few weeks,” according to a lengthy blog post on the game’s Steam page from developer Ludeon Studios. You can also find more details about each feature and their potential manifestations on the blog, as well as commentary from Tynan Slvester (creator) on why and what they could inspire. If you’re a RimWorld fan who delights in the chaos that can befall colonies, it’s worth checking out for a deeper dive on these new systems.
