Returnal’s Ascension Update, Which Adds Co-Op And A New Challenge Tower, Is Now Live

Updated on 3-22-2012The Ascension Update to Returnal has been updated. This means that you are now able to bring along a friend in the new co-op mode. To learn more about Ascension, you can see the story here. It also introduces a new area in The Tower of Sisyphus. This tower, which can only be played solo, adds floors of combat trials with who–knows–what awaiting at its peak. 

Original story:Do you want to face the Returnal Challenges with your friend? You can now! Players can now play the entire Returnal game in co-op mode, thanks to the Ascension Update on March 22. The journey is almost complete. The Tower of Sisyphus will also be updated. This content is not available in co-op. It is an adventure full of trials and tribulations. Although we do not know what the Tower will look like, it is safe to say that there will be some randomization and new enemies and bosses.

After obtaining Icarian Grapnel, which is the second boss, it appears that you can get to the tower quite early in the game.  I’m not sure which is more exciting – the prospect of bringing in a friend to take on Returnal with or tackling new Returnal content! We’ll just say that it’s amazing to see Returnal get new content so late in the game. Perhaps the teamplay might even encourage some players into Atropos’ haunting world. The trailer is now available.
