PS5 Shortages Expected To Stabilize And Overtake PS4 Sales By 2024

Many Sony players around the globe are frustrated by the inability to get the PlayStation 5. HirokiTotoki, Sony’s Chief Financial Officer, stated plans in Fall 2021 to increase investment in semiconductor shortages related to the pandemic. According to EurogamerComponent scarcity is not the only factor that causes the new-gen gap. Part inventory has been affected by the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Jim Ryan, Sony’s CEO, stated yesterday that PS4 sales remain higher than PS5. The shortages will stabilize, and be overtaken by PS4 sales in 2024.

You can see projections of the PS5 in the picture above. In the first year, the PS5 sold more than the PS4. The PS4 was undersold in the second year due to supply limitations. By year three, this gap should close. And by year four, the PS5 will likely surpass its predecessor. It won’t all be simple. Sony is working with two partners to accelerate the steady sales increase. They plan to source more suppliers and to facilitate logistics negotiations that will ensure optimal delivery routes.

Matt Miller gave the PlayStation 5 an “A” in his console review and said:

The PlayStation 5 is a powerful, sophisticated gaming device that can eliminate the tedious loading screens that plague console gaming for so many decades. The new lighting technology on the PlayStation 5 makes games appear stunning. This is especially true for 4K displays. Additionally, a unique sound engine provides a rich audio experience. Although it is appealing from the outside, its design can be overwhelming and won’t appeal to everyone. The dashboard’s intuitive design and ease of use makes it easy for you to value your time, especially leisure.

We all look forward to seeing the Sony consoles of the future.
