PS5 restock: Sony opens registration to buy directly from PlayStation

Nearly a year after the PlayStation 5’s launch, its nigh impossible to buy a console without jumping through some hoops. It will be difficult to get your hands on the PS5 during this holiday season due to supply and shipping problems. Sony offers some relief by allowing potential PS5 owners to sign up directly for the chance to buy a new console.

According to Sony’s console order reservation page, the only prerequisite to sign up is a PlayStation Network ID. Sony says it will contact registrants via email, if they’re selected, with the opportunity to buy a PS5 starting in November.

Similar to the PS5 pre-order program Sony launched in 2020, the selection criteria is “based on previous interests and PlayStation activities.” And like that system, customers who are selected can only purchase one console and a limited number of accessories. The number of invitations is strictly limited:

  • 1 PS5 console, 1 PS5 Digital Edition
  • 2 DualSense wireless controllers, Cosmic Red Bundles, Midnight Black and Cosmic Red Bundles
  • Three DualSense Wireless Controllers (White).
  • 1 PS5 Media Remote
  • 1 Pulse 3D wireless headset

Of course, being selected to buy a PlayStation 5 from Sony does not actually guarantee you’ll get one. If selected, Sony says you’ll have a set window to actually snatch the thing and availability is, naturally, limited.
