PS5 accessibility tags launch in PlayStation Store, highlighting inclusion options

The PlayStation Store will begin featuring “Accessibility Tags” on its PlayStation 5 titles this week, Sony said on Monday. These tags will be used to highlight the options available for those who have visual or audio disabilities, as well as online communication.

Players can inspect a title’s accessibility options by pressing the triangle button on the game’s product page. Sony stated that more than 50 accessibility tags exist, which can be divided into six categories.

  • Visual options (text options and color alternatives as well as directional audio indicators).
  • Audio (screenreading, visual cue alternative and volume control)
  • Subtitles (subtitle sizes and caption overlay opacity/transparency)
  • Control: Playing with no button holding or repeated button pressing; controller remapping
  • Gameplay: difficulty setting, quick-timer event settings, and puzzle solutions.
  • Text or voice chat transcription for online communication

Sony stated that several PS5 games will be compatible with these accessibility tags as soon as the feature is available later in this week. These are: Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, God of War Ragnarök, Gran Turismo 7Both Marvel’s Spider-ManRemastered And Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

The PlayStation Store’s accessibility settings mirror a similar outreach in the Microsoft Store’s listings for Xbox Series X, where games that have accessibility options are highlighted for players interested in buying or downloading them.
