Pokémon Go maker Niantic cancels projects, lays off 8% of staff

Bloomberg reported Wednesday that Niantic CEO John Hanke told employees in an email that the company was “facing a time of economic turmoil” and was looking to rein in costs.

Based on Bloomberg’s reporting, it appears that Niantic will continue to move forward with the recently announced NBA All-WorldThe game is free to play and allows players to collect NBA stars and modify them using items from real-world locations. They can then take on other players by playing one-on-one matches in their local courts or other places. Niantic even has its own virtual pet game. PeridotIt is currently in development and has soft-launched the product. The company plans to make it more widely available later this year.
