PlayStation Announces Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Prequel Comic

PlayStation announced in December last year that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 would be released on PlayStation 5 this autumn. Oddly, Venom’s voice actor hinted at the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on Twitter. We don’t yet have an official date for the release of this game but we know that we will be getting our first taste this weekend.

This is because, on Free Comic Book Day this May 6, PlayStation releases a prequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in the form of a comic book.

In a PlayStation blog post, Insomniac Games’ narrative director Jon Paquette wrote: “We explored different stories that we might tell as a prequel to the Marvel comics.” “But we kept coming back to the same core premise – what if Peter, Miles, and MJ had to team up against a new Super Villain whose powers they didn’t understand? We also wanted to know what the heroic trio had been up to since Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales. Was Pete up to since there are now two Spider-Men living in the same city? What is Miles’s school performance? What is the status of MJ’s journalist career?

Paquette said that Insomniac games kept returning to the same theme in this comic prequel story: is magic real?

The blog stated: “Because, in this action packed issue, The Hood makes his first appearance in the Marvel Universe and seems to have superhuman abilities. He defies mere fists and webs.”

Insomniac Games collaborated with Marvel’s Spider-Man author Christos Gae and artist Ig Guiara to create this comic. You can pick up this issue in a U.S. comic shop that is participating in Free Comic Book Day, or download it digitally from Marvel Unlimited or Marvel.com beginning May 6. Marvel Unlimited’s app will offer the comic in all countries.
