Billy And Jimmy Return In Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons

Double Dragon Gaiden Rise of the Dragons marks the return of Billy Lee and Jimmy Lee. The new co-op game will be released this summer, and it is a tag-team adventure that revitalizes the series.

Set in New York City after it’s been destroyed by nuclear war, Billy and Jimmy must take back what remains from the violent gangs that have since taken over. They won’t be doing it alone, though. The game features 13 playable characters, including Marian, the brothers’ old love interest, who now packs a pistol to blast threats from afar, and newcomer Uncle Matin, a tank-like fighter with a riot shield. 

According to a press release, Double Dragon Gaiden boasts “seamless tag team abilities and a multitude of strategies for devastating combos, defensive and offensive moves.” Solo players can swap characters on the fly to switch between their individual skills, such as the offense-focused Jimmy and more defensive Billy. Launching with two-players local co-op, online co-op will be available in an update. 

Double Dragon Gaiden asks players to eliminate four gang bosses, and it features an innovative dynamic mission selection system. You can choose to complete missions in any order. This will change their length, the difficulty level, and even how many enemies appear. As you earn cash, powerful special videos that eliminate enemies immediately are unlocked. Additionally, crowd control maneuvers that wipe out many foes can be obtained. Additional gameplay features include permadeath, unlimited modes and an adjustable level of difficulty. 

Double Dragon Gaiden Rise of the Dragons comes to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch.
