PlayStation 5 Price Increased In Multiple Non-US Markets

Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed that it raised the price of PlayStation 5 consoles, both the digital disc drive editions, in multiple markets around the world. 

This news comes from a blog post released by the company today detailing the price increase, why it’s happening, and what markets are affected. Sony states that price increases are caused by the current global economic environment, high inflation rates, and other factors. 

“The global economic environment is a challenge that many of you around the world are no doubt experiencing,” the post from SIE president and CEO Jim Ryan reads. “We’re seeing high global inflation rates, as well as adverse currency trends, impacting consumers and creating pressure on many industries. SIE took the hard decision to raise the retail price of PlayStation 5 for select markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa, Asia-Pacific (APAC), Latin America, LATAM, and Canada based upon these difficult economic conditions. The United States will not see a price rise.

“While this price increase is a necessity given the current global economic environment and its impact on SIE’s business, our top priority continues to be improving the PS5 supply situation so that as many players as possible can experience everything that PS5 offers and what’s still to come.”
