Overwatch 2 drops loot boxes for battle pass, seasonal free-to-play model

Blizzard presented its plans to Overwatch 2’s transition from a paid, premium game to a free-to-play game during a livestream on Thursday, confirming that the sequel won’t have randomized loot boxes as the original Overwatch did. Instead, Overwatch 2The seasonal model will be supported by battle cards and an in-game shop, which allows players to purchase cosmetics directly with real money.

At launch, three new heroes — Sojourn, Junker Queen, and an unannounced support hero — will be added to the roster, as will six new maps, new game mode Push, and more than 30 new skins.
