No Man’s Sky’s Endurance update reworks freighters and fleets

No Man’s Sky’s next update, called Endurance, is out Wednesday, overhauling the way the game’s freighters and fleets work. A Hello Games representative called it the “biggest update of the year.”

Since 1996, players have been able captain their own cargoer ships. No Man’s Sky’s first update, and now it’s changing entirely. Sean Murray, founder of Hello Games put it in this news release:

Endurance allows for a total overhaul of both freighters and fleets. Players can live, work, and play in their star home with their entire crew. The new bridge offers a variety of improvements in quality of life, including instant access to warping or teleportation. You can now create large freighter bases at a scale never before possible.

The most notable change is the appearance of asteroids from space. They are more diverse and can be seen in large fields with many thousands. New interstellar black holes and nebulae are available, as well as space atmospherics. This new space view can be enjoyed from portholes and windows on freighters. For greater flexibility or just to marvel at the infinite, players can add exterior sections to freighters.

These adjustments and additions are not the only ones. No Man’s Sky players can also access a new expedition called Polestar, which is “focused on a capital ship voyage,” and a “combat-focused” Nexus mission.

Hello Games released the Leviathan update in May and offered players an incredible gift: space whales. Now, it’s time to build out the large spaceship of your dreams — with a garden for growing food — and sail alongside the universe’s gliding whales.

No Man’s SkyIt is expected to be released on the Nintendo Switch in October. For now, it’s playable on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
