Nintendo Switch gets folders, called Groups, in new system update
One of the Nintendo Switch’s most requested features, the ability to sort games into folders on the Switch user interface, is finally here — five years after the system’s launch. Nintendo has released Monday’s system update that allows you to group software together in order to organize your Switch library.
Nintendo’s new Groups feature is available through the Switch’s “All Software” menu, which is visible when a user has more than 12 games on their system. Switch owners can create new groups as needed — up to 100 groups, with up to 200 titles per group. Here’s an example: Groups tweeted by NintendoMonday’s show will feature folders called Mario Games, Zelda Games or Old School.
Detailed instructions on how to create and arrange Groups are available on Nintendo’s support website.
Ver. 14.0.0 of the Nintendo Switch’s system software. Details from Nintendo’s patch notes are available below.

“Groups” feature was added to the All Software menu.
- It is now possible to group software together in order to organize your software titles.
- Making groups for different game genres, developers, or whatever you’d like to organize by may make it easier to find the application you want.
- With a maximum of 200 titles per group, up to 100 can be made.
- The button to proceed to the “All Software” screen is displayed only when there are 13 or more software title icons on the system.
- You can find more information at How to Create Groups of Software.
Bluetooth audio volume behavior has been changed
- You can now adjust the volume of Bluetooth audio devices using either the Nintendo Switch™ console or through volume control buttons on the Bluetooth audio device.
- For these changes to be effective, the Bluetooth audio device should support AVRCP profiles.
- The volume displayed on the console will reflect the Bluetooth audio volume when using the device’s control buttons.
- Increased volume output has been made possible by some Bluetooth audio device.
- To avoid loudness, the volume of the device will be decreased when it is first connected.
- See How to pair and manage Bluetooth audio devices for more details.
