NFL Hall Of Fame Coach, Legendary Commentator, And Video Game Icon John Madden Has Passed Away
John Madden, legendary commentator, broadcaster and NFL Hall of Fame coach, has died today, at 85.
Madden was best known for his role in the NFL as head coach for the Oakland Raiders from 1969–1978, where he led the team to a Super Bowl XI victory in the 1976 season. Madden was a renowned broadcaster who covered the NFL every week for CBS, Fox, ABC and NBC. He was an integral part of American culture over the past 30 years, thanks to his iconic advertisements for Tinactin and other companies.
John Madden, a man we know from his many years in the video game industry, has had a franchise with his name ever since 1988’s John Madden Football. For 23 years, he had given his name, likeness, and often times his voice and infectious persona to the games developed by Electronic Arts now known as Madden NFL. He has an indelible legacy in the world of sports, video games, and culture at large. The least we can say is thank you, John, for the years of sharing your knowledge with your players and audience, being endlessly entertaining, and playing such a big part in making video games what they are today.
John’s spouse Virginia, his sons Michael, Joseph, as well as their families and friends are our condolences.
