New Update Brings 4K Dashboard, Night Mode, And Quick Settings Menu To Xbox Series X

Microsoft recently released an update to its Xbox Series X console that includes 4K dashboards, a Night Mode, and a Quick Settings Menu.

Xbox made this announcement in a blog post Xbox Wire postThis article outlines the main changes that will be made with the update. Before this update, which is now live for all Xbox Series X owners, the console’s dashboard was not truly 4K, but rather, a 1080p resolution upscaled to 4K. The new dashboard displays in native 4K resolution. This means Series X owners with 4K monitors, TVs, or other 4K-compatible devices will see a more sharp image as they scroll through the Series X dashboard menus.

“You can experience 4K while browsing the Home, My Games & Apps, Guide, and many other experiences,” the Xbox Wire post reads. “UI elements on the screen, such as game art and buttons, will have increased sharpness and improved text readability.”

The Series X consoles now have a Night Mode. The mode changes the light source on your screen to keep dark areas dark, such as night. It also serves as an accessible mode for people who are sensitive to light. You can dim and customize the light coming from your display, the light coming from your controller’s lit Xbox button, and even the power light on the console itself.

A customizable blue light filter has been added as well, and Xbox says this feature “does not impact performance, screenshots, or game clips.” You can schedule the console’s Night Mode to be activated whenever you want, and it can even be timed with your local sunrise and sunset times.

You can access Night Mode by going to Settings and selecting Accessibility. Alternatively, you can go to Settings, then TV & Display Options, and then Night Mode.

Final update to Series X consoles: Quick Settings menu.

“This allows you to quickly toggle accessibility features without leaving your game or app,” the Xbox Wire post reads. “It’s also a big benefit for families if you share a console with others who have different accessibility needs. You can quickly switch between features by using quick settings, depending on which person is using it. That means everyone in the family can easily flip the settings to their tailored experience.”
