Netflix suspends streaming in Russia following the invasion of Ukraine

Netflix’s streaming service in Russia has been suspended. Russian customers won’t be allowed to create new accounts, while existing subscribers will lose their current subscriptions.

“Given the circumstances on the ground, we have decided to suspend our service in Russia,” a Netflix spokesperson told Polygon.

Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion of Ukraine late in February. As the conflict rages on, Russian forces have entered the country over the last few weeks. There were thousands of civilian casualties. Over a million people fled Ukraine while thousands more still try to flee.

Mykhailo Federorov became the deputy prime minister of Ukraine in the following weeks urged tech companies like NetflixSony and Microsoft will pull out business from the country. Netflix joins a growing list of companies that have issued sanctions against Russia. Electronic Arts removed both the Russian and Belarusian team members from each of its websites. FIFA 22 NHL 22All sales of the company’s products were stopped in these two countries. Microsoft and Apple and many other companies have pulled out of Russia and Belarus.

“We are sure that such actions will motivate the citizens of Russia to proactively stop the disgraceful military aggression,” Fedorov said in an open letter published last week.
