Microsoft Flight Simulator Releases the Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing as Inaugural Offering of the new “Famous Flyers” Series

First, the Model 17 was designed for business executives. It then served many civilian aviation and military needs during World War II. The Model 17 flew its first flight in November 1932. A total of 785 models were made between 1933-1945. Its form departs from other biplane configurations in that the lower wing is forward of the upper for visibility and performance reasons, hence the name “Staggerwing.”

Model 17 has a sleek cockpit that blends with its fuselage, which is between the two wings. It also features an undercarriage standard and traditional tail units. The Model 17 measures 26 feet 10 inches long, is 32 feet wide, and can seat up to four people, including the pilot. It is powered by a single Pratt & Whitney R-985-AN-1 9-cylinder Wasp Junior radial engine that produces up to 450 horsepower.

Model 17 has a speed of 240 mph and a cruise speed of 210 mph. It also boasts an impressive range of 670 miles. This aircraft can reach an amazing 1,500ft per minute, and has a ceiling service of 25,000ft above sea level.
