Metroid Dread Update Now Live, Fixes Progression Bug And Various Other Issues

Nintendo has issued a software upgrade for Metroid Dread to fix the progress bug. tweetedLast week. It fixes “several other issues to improve overall gameplay experience,” too, as reported by Video Games Chronicle 

Connect your Nintendo Switch with the Internet to download the update. The console’s main menu will be displayed. Launch the game. Nintendo will download and install the update automatically. After the update has been installed, Ver. 1.0.1 on screen, which means you have the latest update for Metroid Dread installed.

Nintendo has released a warningMetroid Dread currently has a bug which prevents players moving forward. 

It can happen near Metroid Dread’s final section, which can make it very annoying. Nintendo states that the fix will be made by October 31st, which means it should not be any longer than the 16-day period. 

Metroid Dread gamers might encounter it again between now and the end. Fortunately, Nintendo has detailed how to avoid it, or get rid of it if it’s already encountered. You’ll know you’ve hit the bug if you receive a message that says, “The software was closed because an error occurred” followed promptly by the game forcibly closing. 

Nintendo states that this bug can only occur under certain circumstances. 

“Near the end of the game, if the player destroys a door while a map marker for that specific door is displayed on the map, the game will forcibly close and [the message above will appear on-screen],” Nintendo’s PSA about the bug reads. 

Sounds pretty devastating, right? It could be, especially if you’re gunning for the end, but fortunately, Nintendo has detailed exactly how to get around it or avoid it altogether. 

Here’s what you need to do if you encounter the bug, or have already begun the sequence of events that will lead to encountering the bug: 

  • To prevent the error from happening, restart the game.
  • Once the October 2021 software update is available, be sure to update Metroid Dread to avoid encountering this bug.
