Max Payne Remakes Are Coming From Remedy Entertainment After Striking Deal With Rockstar

Remedy Entertainment has announced that it will return to Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, the series that established the studio as a prominent name in the gaming industry. Remedy Entertainment has reached an agreement to remake the game with Rockstar Games, according to this announcement.

Remedy will make a big remake of both Max Payne classics. Remedy will be releasing the game for PlayStation 5 on Xbox Series X/S and PC. It will use its Northlight gaming engine. Rockstar will be fronting the bill for development, which will be budgeted to be “in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production,” according to a press release provided by Remedy. After Rockstar’s funding has been recouped, Remedy will be able to collect royalty payments on the game. There was no release window.

Remedy CEO Tero Virtala remake on the agreement, saying, “We’re hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.”

Take-Two (the parent company of Rockstar) owns rights to Max Payne IP. Rockstar developed Max Payne 3 in 2012, which was published by Rockstar. Remedy Software and Apogee Software purchased the rights to Max Payne 2 for $10,000,000 in stock and cash in 2002. This was one year before the publication of Max Payne 2.

Remedy Entertainment’s most recent games include Control, the campaign of Crossfire X, and Alan Wake Remastered. The studio is currently developing Alan Wake 2, a multiplayer game with Tencent codenamed Vanguard, and a multiplayer Control spin-off.
