Showtime will soon be able to show a different version of this story. It retains the character dynamics and title, while drastically changing the plot. Both the movie and book versions depict an ancient vampire living in the form of a young woman. While she works with a dedicated adult guardian, her closest connection is with a child friend. The TV version has a different dynamic and goal: The young vampire, Eleanor (Madison Taylor Baez), was only turned a decade ago, and her father Mark (Demián Bichir) is trying to keep her safe and supplied with blood, while finding cures for both her vampirism and her loneliness.

Although the trailer shows more action and intensity on screen than in the film versions, it retains the melancholy of an aged child who is permanently separated from all other children and also the terror of him being a predator blood-drinking child.
