Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s climbing can’t hold up to this indie

Even everyday activities can be horrifying, if presented in the right — or in this case wrong — way. This is the kind of approach we see creator Bubby Darkstar take with an upcoming horror game that’s equal parts cute, horrifying, and trippy. As you travel through a corridor filled with prowling eyes, your routine subway trip takes on an entirely new meaning.

It is not uncommon to be dragged along the subway tracks. Cool WIP, Polygon’s weekly roundup of eye-catching clips and screenshots of works in progress. To give you a sampling of the coolest projects, Polygon’s staff searches the Internet for new and interesting games.

We have this week a game that looks like a collage of objects and plants from the garden. It’s called a frog adventure. This is a fast-paced platformer reminding us of PortalYou can also climb with enthusiasm.

The morning commute was never so scary

A neon, blinking world. Subway MidnightThis looks like an interesting twist for your morning commute. Link and his climb match

Many open-world games let us climb right now. I’m awed by these characters who seemingly defy the laws of physics as they clambering their way up steep surfaces with merely the edge of their fingernails. (See Link in The Legend of Zelda – The Breath of The Wild.) Code Blue Games offers a new kind of climbing animationThe inspiration for this avatar is the movement of the upper body while climbing uses their lower body. The motion of its limbs and the avatar’s attention to the wall itself make it look like you’re seeing an actual human bouldering. The game is still in early development, but you can follow the team’s work on their Twitter account.

Little seed, big adventure

Bardsley Creative offers a new adventure that allows you to play as a seedling. You may be wondering how that works. The environment is at your mercy. swing and flingMove from one location to another. (Since seeds can’t, you know, walk.) This game reminds me of Amanita, which made similar fantasical worlds from the textures and objects of nature. The Steam page states that it is available for download. The SeedlingsIt is expected to release in April 2022. You can play a demo right now.

It’s time for frogs to get their own RPG

Although I admit to having a weird bias towards frogs in this column, they seem very trendy right now. This is the latest addition to the list of indie games that are frog-filled. A Frog’s Tale, a “turn-based RPG” where you adventure along as a frog. Norman Company, Cathar Games and the creators of this game. posted a clipA frog jumping up to a box and then opening the chest to discover a berry. If this looks like your kind of romp, you can follow the team’s work on the game’s Twitter account.

Escape from the hellish office

Here’s a good reason to keep working from home: Your office is literally filled with lava. Get In Hell of an OfficeTo avoid rising lava, you must leap through portals. A clip showsThe platforming is in motion and how you navigate through portals reminds me a lot of the Portal games. The game, being made by 43 Studios, doesn’t have a release date but you can follow progress on the game’s Twitter account.
