Learning to Get Back on the Board with Session: Skate Sim
My first boardslide with my skateboard on a board was the best moment of my (short-lived) sports career. I was 11, still learning how to launch myself into the air, and didn’t quite know how to even approach a rail that was about half my height. There is a steep learning curve to skateboarding. However, it is possible to get comfortable enough to glide all the way over a rail.
Playing Session: Skate Sim brought me all the way back to that first moment of stepping on a board; the controls are unlike any skateboard game I’d played before and the act of moving around required my brain to rewire itself and learn something completely new. It took practice, but it became easier and more natural with time. I learned to push and roll, and how to maneuver the board in order to achieve my goals.

Eventually, what seemed impossible at the start – completing a full session as if I was filming an actual skate video part – became one of the most rewarding moments of my video game career. It was easy to master the controls and could easily switch between 5-0 hubbas or big spin down stairs.
Over the past few years, I’ve put roughly 100 hours into the game as an early access title and have picked up some tips and tricks to help anyone new feel comfortable on their board. With Session: Skate SimS|S, I can’t wait to jump back in, set up a new board, and explore everything the game has to offer.

You can take your time to learn
As noted above, the controls aren’t like anything you’ve experienced before. Things may feel daunting at the start, but soon you’ll realize how much control you have. You can use the joysticks to control your feet with each other. The game promises it is a simulator. Find a staircase or ledge, set your marker so you can keep respawning, and put the practice in – soon the controls will come easy.
Despite the hours I’ve put in, I’m still learning every time I play. This game has all new controls for lip tricks and transition skating, so I can learn something that I couldn’t do on a board.

Your Favorite Trick is Now Yours
As with most professional riders, learning the best tricks and mastering them will increase your confidence. It can also help to get out of trouble if something happens. If there’s a trick you want to land but can’t quite figure out how to pull it off, Session: Skate Sim offers a great Trick Guide that shows you how to complete almost anything you’d want to learn.

AUTHENTIC GAMES
Each stick is a representation of one foot using the dual stick controls. It will be necessary to master how they work and how to transfer weight. With a focus placed on realisticity, smoothness, and immersion, the physics were designed. Although the initial hours may seem difficult for new skateboarders, once they have learned the techniques, they will soon feel the incredible thrill of doing their first flip. You can also customize your Skate Sim sessions to create the best experience for you. There are four levels of difficulty, plus a tutorial that will help you get started.
THE 1990S AND SKATING CULTURE
Inspired by the golden age of street skating – the 1990s – Session: Skate Sim lets you experience true skateboarding and its culture: no scoring system; just you, your spot and your imagination! No need to be told by judges that this spot is the best place for your varial heelflip or noseslide. Because certain spots are famous, developers added several locations to the game to allow you to express yourself and skate in them, such as Black Hubbas (New York City), Brooklyn Banks (New York City), FDR Park, Philadelphia, and other places.
“IF IT WASN’T Caught ON VIDEO it DIDN’T HAPPEN”
Skating and pulling off the best lines in the best spots is one thing, but if no one is there to film it, it didn’t really happen… In Session: Skate Sim, you can film with a 1990s filter or fisheye lens, and you can use the video editor to create your clips and share them. There are many options available, such as changing the angle, filter, or orbit of your camera. The session: Skate Sim allows you to transform from skater into filmmaker. You can then experience your skating moves from the perspective of the camera operator, and make the most of the footage.
