June 2023 gaming deep cuts: Ghost Trick, Crime O’Clock, and more
The following are some of the ways to get in touch with each other Lottery Tickets Every month, new video games come out. The game release calendar is a great way to keep track of the latest releases. The thwap with the ol’ broom, a few huge AAA-tier games would likely drop to the ground like anvils. They’d kick up a cloud that overshadows the arrival of smaller games — potentially great ones, even, from developers you might’ve heard of and new indie creators alike. You might even find some games that end up being on your GOTY.
We don’t want to let these games slip by (and you’d probably like to know about them, right?), so each month we’ll be rounding up a handful of notable game launches that you should know about. Keep an eye out for the next round of video games deep cuts nearing the end of each month.
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
Ghost Trick: Phantom DetectiveIt is exciting to hear that this game is set to be released on PCs and consoles in the coming months. In case you haven’t heard of this game until now, it’s a gem that originally launched in North America for the Nintendo DS in 2011 and for iOS in 2012. The HD Remaster was originally designed for touchscreens but has now been converted to controllers. Funny detail: This cartoonishly animated game runs on the RE Engine, the same one that powers graphical powerhouses filled with lifelike visuals, such as Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake.
Fans of Phoenix Wright Ace AttorneyIt is obvious that they have a shared DNA. They share the director and composer. And I can tell you with certainty that both the music and writing are funny. However, the premise couldn’t be more different. To prevent bad things happening, you play as a ghost who can take possession of everyday objects in order to create distractions. These are high-stakes scenarios, no doubt, but it’s a fairly chill game to play. I can’t wait to get back into it, although I’m buying it partially to listen to the soundtrack.
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective’s HD remaster launches June 30 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One. There’s a free demo to play on every platform.
Crime O’Clock
Crime O’ClockThis is a puzzle game that’s as ambitious as they come for Nintendo Switch or PC. As the title suggests, you’ll be solving crimes, and time plays a big factor. Time travel is what I am referring to when I say time. To solve some cases, you will need to travel to different times to change the outcome of an event in the present, past or future.
That premise in itself isn’t wholly original, but the package for Crime O’ClockReally stands out. Its uses color sparingly, relying on its high-contrast visual style to highlight clues — a smart design choice, since you’ll be searching for hidden objects. Not going to lie, I adore the monotone newspaper-like look of each era’s map. Big props go to the artists who packed so much information into each map. You can also see our other articles. Maps are detailed and packed with information.
Crime O’ClockLaunches on Nintendo Switch on 30 June in digital format. A physical version will be available at GameStop at a future date. Windows PC will be the first to play this game on July 21.
Killer Frequency
Killer Frequency is both a clever twist on the ’80s slasher formula and an homage. You play as the host of a radio show whose listeners are all suffering from the same issue: someone is trying to kill them. Each and every single one, it seems.
You have a duty to them, which is to assist in their escape from death. You can also find out more about the way to get in touch with us. You are paid above your grade. Nevertheless, you’ll have to be resourceful, using clues sprinkled around the radio station to help them escape death and to thwart the killer’s plans. You will have to choose the dialogue for each person and hold them on the phone in the hopes that they’ll be able to escape. The trailer suggests that things might not end well.
Killer FrequencyThis game is currently available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5; Windows PC; Xbox One; Xbox Series X and in VR (for Meta Quest 2 and Quest Pro); and Nintendo Switch.
Master Detective Archives: Rain Code
The creators of the Whodunit visual mystery novel Danganronpa Spike Chunsoft, which is also responsible for many other classic cult games on the Nintendo Switch exclusive Master Detective Archives: Rain Code.
You’re part of the WDO, the World Detective Organization, a scrappy crew whose mission is to eradicate mysteries. Hey, screw the mysteries! In this visual novel with hidden-object elements, you’ll hunt for clues and utilize each character’s “forensic fortes” to solve cases. Apparently, the WDO is an “extra-privileged” organization, yet some of the characters don’t know why they’re in it. The WDO seems to be creating more puzzles than the game can resolve. SungWon Cho, also known as ProZD, lent his voice for the game. one of the detectives, “Number One.”
Master Detective Archives: Rain CodeLaunches on Nintendo Switch on 30 June.
Dordogne
Dordogne, as I learned recently, is a region in France. It’s also the name of a gorgeous-looking game published by Focus Entertainment and developed by studios Umanimation and Un Je Ne Sais Quoi. Dordogne The game was released earlier in the month on all modern consoles, including PC. For Xbox Game Pass subscribers, it’s available on that service for no extra charge.
I reckon it’d be tough to find anyone who doesn’t find its 3D-meets-watercolor art style appealing, but thankfully there seems to be a lot more here than just visual panache. This charming tale tells of a little girl visiting Dordogne to visit her grandmother who is now deceased. There, she has a sad realization: she’s losing grasp of her precious memories; the places she traveled to and things she used to do with her grandma no longer resonate the same way. You’ll have to find a way to get them back.
Dordogne The following is available: On Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
Pekoe
Cats. Teahouses. Teahouses. Cats that own teahouses and make tea for cats. Other cats that drink tea while you prepare their tea.
I’ve just cheekily described a portion of the gameplay loop of PekoeThe game is a charmer that proudly wears the Animal Crossing influence. It’s launching via Steam Early Access later in June, and the trailer may have already sold you. Create your own cozy teahouse and learn how to be a better teamaker. This will make your customers happy. There’s not a bad vibe to be seen within 100 miles of this game’s chill setting.
There’s no better way to describe this game than as wholesome. If that’s up your alley, there are a bunch of other games you might enjoy checking out from the recent Wholesome Direct, an indie games showcase.
