John Romero Releases New Doom 2 Level To Raise Money For Ukraine
John Romero is the co-creator and author of Doom II. He has just released a new FPS Level. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Ukrainian Red Cross as well the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund.
Romero last released Doom II’s new level in 1994. That means that this new level, which is called One Humanity, is Romero’s first new level for the game in 28 years, as first reported by Video Games Chronicle. The level can be purchased on Romero’s website and it costs roughly $7.
“One Humanity is a new level for the 1994 id Software release Doom II created by John Romero to support the people of Ukraine and the humanitarian efforts of the Red Cross and the UN Central Emergency Response Fund,” Romero writes on his website.” All proceeds will go to these initiatives. One Humanity is Romero’s first Doom II level since the release of the original in 1994. The.WAD file contains both the readme text and the external mod files. Players must have an original copy of Doom II and a modern source port to play one Humanity.”
As stated by VGCRomero stated on Twitter that this level has no associated costs. Every cent will be used to support Ukraine’s efforts. He said “revenue = proceeds.”
The news is coming amid a conflict in Ukraine, where Russia invaded and attacked Ukraine last week. After weeks of increasing tensions between both countries, this invasion took place. Since the initial invasion last week, hundreds of Ukrainians have been killed, and as the world watches this historical and terrifying event unfold, efforts across gaming, like Romero’s, have been enacted to help Ukraine.
11 Bit Studios last week announced that the money it raised through sales of This War of Mine would be donated to the Ukrainian Red Cross. Bungie and GSC Game World are just a few of the other developers who have expressed solidarity with Ukraine.
