How to watch 2022 Winter Olympics, ceremony, and figure skating for free
The 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, China are here and that means we’re getting two-plus weeks of incredible sporting competition (and just a year after the last pandemic-delayed Summer Olympics). With so many events and sports on tap, it can be tough to figure out what’s on when and where to watch your favorite competition (ice skating, obviously). NBC has many options for watching, including streaming and cable as well as streaming. However, it can be confusing to navigate through all of those channels.
To help make sense of how exactly you’re supposed to watch the 2022 Winter Olympics, we put together a guide of websites, streaming services, and subscriptions so you know how to catch the best events this year.
Watch and stream the 2022 Winter Olympics
The Olympic Games this year are going to be on a few different TV channels: NBC, CNBC, USA, and the Olympic channel — as well as Telemundo and Universo for Spanish-language coverage. You can watch live events on these channels, or tape-delay coverage at prime time. These will include edited highlights of many events from the day. If you’d rather access those channels through streaming, you can sign into the NBC Olympics website, or the NBC Sports app with your cable subscription.
Peacock, NBC’s in-house streaming service, will be available for this year’s games. Peacock, NBC’s in-house streaming service, will carry every single live event from the games, as well as replays of all the events after they happen. Peacock subscriptions cost $4.99 per month or $9.99 per month for the full service with no ads.
How to view the Olympics Opening Ceremony
At 6:30 AM, the Opening Ceremony will take place. ET. It will broadcast live on NBC as well as streamed online on Peacock. It is anticipated that the event will last approximately an hour and half. If you can’t make the official opening, NBC will air a special version of the ceremony later that same night starting at 8 p.m. ET. Peacock can also view the Opening Ceremony replay.
Free access to the 2022 Winter Olympics
You will have a less satisfying experience if you try to see the games without paying anything. However, it is still possible.
- If you own a television with an antenna, you can view NBC free of charge over the air. An antenna that is relatively inexpensive can be ordered online by anyone with a modern TV.
- Peacock allows you to stream highlights from Olympic events without paying a subscription.
- The NBC Olympics website provides 30 minutes of live coverage for free before you need to sign in with a cable provider.
- Fubo gives you a seven-day complimentary trial
- YouTube TV and Hulu TV provide free trials, often lasting as much as one month. That’s plenty of time to watch the whole Winter Games.
How to see figure skating at Winter Olympics
Figure skating is easily the most popular sport at the Winter Olympics, so we’re going to guess that it’s the one you might most want the schedule for. Here’s NBC’s full 2022 Winter Olympics figure skating schedule:
