How to get Paintballs in Monster Hunter Now, and how Paintballs work

There are two different types of Paintballs — becoming available once you complete “Prologue 3: The Secret to Strength” in the main story — which can be obtained in different ways.

What do paintballs look like in Monster Hunter Now?
As you walk around, you may run into big monsters that you don’t really want to take down at that exact moment.

- Palico also has the ability to automatically attack them. blue Palico PaintballsMarking monsters and fighting them at your leisure for several days. (We’ve had marked monsters last for up to 48 hours.) Strength of the tagged monsters is random.
This is great if you’re walking around or commuting, as your Felyne buddy will mark large hunts that you may miss otherwise, even if your app is closed (though your Adventure Sync needs to be on). My cat buddy marked several big hunts while I was driving to run errands.
Monster Hunter Now: Get more Paintballs
Each day you can get up to three Palico Paintballs free. Based on our gameplay, there isn’t a way to buy more Palico Paintballs, and any unused Paintballs won’t roll over to the next day.

The shop sells pink Paintballs that you can mark manually. They cost 180 gems per one, and 900 for five. Pink Paintballs can be obtained from certain Hunter ranks.
The familiar Pokémon GoThe earning ability of Palico Paintballs can be compared to the raid pass: the blue ones are the same as the free orange raid passes and the pink ones the paid green passes.
