Here’s Your First Look At Resident Evil 4 Remake Gameplay

Today during the Capcom Showcase livestream, the company touched base on its recently-announced Resident Evil 4 remake – including showing all of a few seconds of gameplay. The presentation was quite disappointing considering the depths it took.

The presentation was led by Yasuhiro anpo, director of Resident Evil 2 and 3, and Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, producer. They filled in the details of RE4’s story and talked about the fact that the game is both a faithful adaptation and a reimagining. Six years later, the story of Resident Evil 2/3 is over. Leon Kennedy, the RE4 protagonist, becomes the president’s personal bodyguard. Leon goes to Europe in search of the President’s missing daughter. It doesn’t end well, as you would expect.

The gameplay is then shown to us for the first time. It looks amazing visually. This footage was taken at the beginning of the game when Leon is outside the village and in the forest. The forest in the game is darker and more frightening than the original. “We want to nail the feeling of loneliness and fear of not knowing what lies ahead, even more so than the original,” Hirabayashi said during the presentation. There will be exciting battles, of course.

You’d be excused if you expected a glimpse at those thrilling battles, but unfortunately, no such look came. Our look at gameplay ends as Leon walks up to a house in the middle of the forest – which ostensibly is where Leon encounters the first Ganado, as is the case in the original RE4.

Resident Evil 4 will be my most anticipated game. The original Resident Evil is still one of my favourite games. It’s a disappointing reveal. It would have been great to see the actual game in action, but it was not on the cards. We can only hope that we will get an even better view in the future.
