Harmonix Is Being Acquired By Epic Games
Epic Games has announced the acquisition of Harmonix music and rhythm games developer Harmonix according to both companies.
Epic Games made a statement saying on its website about the company’s future, saying, “The Harmonix team will collaborate closely with Epic to develop musical journeys and gameplay for Fortnite while continuing to support existing titles including Rock Band 4.”
Harmonix has a brief blog post on its site as well, followed by a short Q&A covering the obvious questions regarding its active support for Rock Band and most recent release FUSER. Harmonix’s statement on joining the Epic Family:
We have been trying to change the way people interact and experience music for 26 years. Since the beginning days of The Axe through Guitar Hero and Rock Band, Dance Central, Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and our VR titles, including FUSER, we’ve strived for a new definition of what a music video game could be. Now, we’ll be working with Epic to once again challenge expectations as we bring our unique brand of musical gaming experiences to the Metaverse, and we couldn’t be more excited.”
The company will continue to support its current seasons and events, but won’t stop supporting them. Details aside, Harmonix games such as Rock Bank will still be available. stay up and running, though expect the developer to leverage its talents in Fortnite sometime in the future musical talents as well.
Epic is no stranger to interactive concerts. musical performances in recent years, and that trend will undoubtedly continue and expand with a team like Harmonix under its umbrella. Harmonix could be the best team to surpass Epic with events like Ariana Grande’s performance last summer.
