Hannibal creator’s Friday the 13th reboot series can’t use Jason

This is the return of one of the most iconic slasher franchises, without its legendary killer. Friday 13thPeacock will get a prequel series, named Crystal Lake.

The series will take place at some point before the first movie, but won’t feature Jason or his trademark hockey mask thanks to the ongoing legal battle over the franchise. The rights to the series were split by two people due to strange contracts and lengthy court battles. One owns the first film and one owns the sequels.

However, The Scream’s Ghostface wants us to remember, Jason wasn’t the killer in the first movie — his mom was. So while we could certainly get a Mrs. Voorhees in the prequel series, don’t expect Jason himself to be showing up or doing any killing. That being said, the idea of a summer camp that’s frequently stalked by killers of one VoorheesA horror series can be made from any number of different sources.

Friday 13thThis isn’t the first series of slasher slashers to receive its own spinoff. There were prequel and spinoff series available in the 2010s. The Scream, Psycho, and even Bryan Fuller’s own Hannibal. Even more surprising, however, was the fact that most of these series were good to excellent, making this project even more exciting. Fuller, a TV veteran who has created many shows in the past 20 years. Like Me Dead, Star Trek: Discovery, American GodsThe aforementioned Hannibal. Also see behind Crystal Lake will be A24, which while known for movies is also the studio behind HBO’s Euphoria. There’s no word yet on when Crystal Lake might come out, but it’s likely more than a year away.
