Halo Infinite: New Multiplayer Update Gives Players Increased XP In First Six Matches

Many of us here at Game Informer find Halo Infinite’s multiplayer free-to-play a joy that is both nostalgic and new. One point of contention, which has also been shared with the Halo community is the tedious grind of earning XP. Infinite’s progression system has a lot of flaws, making leveling a tedious task. 343 Industries initially implemented an update that allowed players to receive XP boosts over longer periods of time. Today’s new update goes a step further and increases XP payouts for the first six matches of each day.

John Junyszek, 343’s community manager took to Twitter (see below) to discuss how these changes are in response to the previous multiplayer progress updates.

We made the initial changes to the progression. This included Daily “Play 1 game” Challenges and Weekly Challenges. If necessary, we also doubled the amount of 2XP boosters. It’s now time to continue the discussion. We noticed players starting sessions earlier than they would like due to the slower payouts. This is why we are raising the XP payouts in the 6 initial matches of every day.

It comes one day after Jerry Hook, 343’s head designer, expressed his disappointment with Infinite’s development and pledged that the dev team would prioritise a solution. Here are the XP points associated with each match.

  • First Game = 300XP
  • Second Game = 200XP
  • Third Game = 200XP
  • Fourth game = 100XP
  • 5th game = 100XP
  • 6. Game = 100XP
  • 7th+ game = 50XP

Junyszek ended the thread by saying that the update was a quick one based upon player feedback. More substantial changes will be made in the future, but they are more difficult to implement.

Spartans, that’s it! Halo Infinite will release its singleplayer story on Xbox Series X/S (and Xbox One), December 8. Watch our interview on What You Should Know about Halo Infinite Campaign to prepare you for Master Chief’s journey.
