Genshin Impact devs cover up the butts of characters in underwater

Genshin ImpactThe water-themed region Fontaine was released on Tuesday. Although this patch will allow players to explore underwater worlds, characters won’t be rocking any cute beach outfits. Hoyoverse, the developer of this game, has introduced a way to cover up characters’ buttocks.

The 4.0 update will allow players to explore beneath the surface of the ocean and the surrounding area. The swimming itself feels great, and it’s almost like players get to fly through the surrounding coral reefs and underwater caverns. The moment you dive beneath the surface, characters butts’ will be blurred by a small circular shape that looks like bubbles. The small graphical effect likely serves one purpose: to obscure the view of your character’s butt. Below you can see it.

Overall, the bubble isn’t a huge deal. It was barely noticeable as I moved from one place to another. If you turn the camera to face the front, it disappears. The effect is ‘half-assed’, but it still feels that way. Other characters are also given the censor. It’s not only for women who wear skirts or more skimpy outfits. Bennett in the image above, wearing cargo shorts, a fannypack, and an oversized hat, also gets one. Or there’s Zhongli, who wears pants and also has flowing sashes that cover his back, and he gets the bubble as well.

While it’s unclear why characters with full suits and cargo shorts still need the bubble, the addition makes sense for a few reasons. Genshin ImpactIt is an international commercial success, so a more conservative character design could make the game more accessible. Developers released alternate and more conservative outfits in 2022. The boub jiggle movement of Lisa and other characters has also been criticized by fans. Swimming underwater can provide new views. This might be the safer option.

As for the men, well, there has never been that much to see so it’s not like that little bubble is hiding much. Zhongli and Ayato, for example, have their butts hidden by their clothes.
