Genshin Impact characters get alternate outfits

The developers of Mihoyo’s free-to-play game Genshin Impact are releasing a set of new, more conservative outfits for four of the game’s characters. The following characters will get new skins: Dandelion Knight” Jean, “Gliding Champion” Amber, “Thorny Benevolence” Rosaria, and “Astral Reflection” Mona. The alterations — which will become the default character design for players using Chinese servers — will become an additional optional skin for players stateside.

Mihoyo, a Chinese-based company, made the necessary changes to ensure that character designs conformed to Chinese regulations. According to Mihoyo’s fan translation, The Mihoyo post has been updated and no longer mentions the reasons for the changes.

Polygon reached out to Mihoyo in order to verify that the changes were made due to Chinese regulations. We will also update this article as soon as we get a reply.

Players should not be affected by the alterations. “The default outfits of the above characters will be retained,” Mihoyo said. So if you like the new outfits, you can opt to change into them, but otherwise, you won’t see a difference.

Although the changes were minimal, they may not show the final designs. Mihoyo said the images cannot be used as a guideline for final products. One Twitter userThis handy graphic compares the different versions of each outfit. Mona’s bodysuit no longer looks like it is a one piece swimsuit. This was the most notable of all changes. Jean is now wearing a button-up shirt that covers all of her chest. You can view Mihoyo’s original Twitter post and the comparisons below.

What’s the cost of changing the default outfit of your characters? Mihoyo said that players on Chinese servers will all get 1200 Primogems in compensation, since they’ll no longer have access to the old designs.
