Generation ZeroThe game has been online for more than three years and still many things are happening. The game, the people and the environment it creates are our favourite. We have endless ideas and new ways to improve the game.

Here are the most important updates I have made to the game in the past year. I trust you’ll enjoy our work and we might see you in-game.

Generation Zero you explore the idyllic island Östertörn, set in 1980s Sweden. You will find hostile machines all over the place, with almost no humans. As you traverse the island, you will work to uncover what is happening on Östertörn, and do what you can to fight back against the overpowering machines.

As of this year, the FNIX machines are no longer the only threat in Östertörn. Three machines of a new faction have found their way to Östertörn’s shores, and they are attacking both the already existing machines and any human who dares to cross their path.

The smaller Lynxes roll around in packs, the large Wolf patrols the fields, and in the skies our first flying machine can be spotted – the Firebird. There are many weapons available, including fire, gas, bombs and shots. The map’s layout is now more hazardous than ever. However, it’s possible to overcome even the most dangerous enemies if one thinks fast and can adapt to their circumstances.

Together with the new machines there are three new missions added, many new locations to visit, and collectibles to be found – which will all help you learn more about the new machines and why they came to Östertörn.

A year ago, we released the first version for base construction and a repetable Horde Mode to help you defend your base against ever-increasing threats.

Additionally, Control Points can now be found across a variety of regions. You can choose to build your own base in these unique places, but beware – FNIX machines can build bases there too. FNIX bases that are procedurally generated can always be different. There is a lot of traps and turrets to avoid. They can be difficult to eliminate, but you’ll get valuable resources and places that will allow you to continue building.

You can also choose from a variety of buildings to help you design your base. Are you looking to make a scary place out of concrete and barbedwire? Will you create a scary place using concrete, barbed wire and hard cement? As you experiment with building your house, and then defend it against the Horde Mode update, your choice is up.

Ever wished you could move faster than the bike on the road? With an added moped, and three more motorbikes to be found in a DLC, you can explore Östertörn at top speed. The motorbikes will give you a new experience of traversal, but don’t forget to bring fuel and a repair kit or two! To broaden your choices when dealing with machines, there are more weapons and some other equipment.

It is our goal to introduce new players to the games in a fun and immersive way. We have also made several improvements to the starting screen. New NPCs were added, as well as an introduction movie and objectives for the first mission. We have added to the existing story, providing more detail about the initial hours of the invasion and giving personal perspectives on how the battle against the machines played out.

The game has grown a lot this year, and the experience of Östertörn has expanded in many exciting ways. More deadly machines can be avoided or destroyed, machines are fighting one another in the distance and FNIX bases are constantly appearing whenever you look back. With these updates, we in the development team feel that Östertörn is more alive than ever. As we hope you enjoy these updates as much as we do, we are looking forward to working with all of you in the future. Generation ZeroIn the future, we will see more.
