Garfield Puts Up His Dukes For Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl’s Garfield, the grumpy orange cartooncat is back! According to, he’ll be free to play on PlayStation 3, Xbox and PC, while a Switch version will also be free. IGN.

Garfield, who is well-known for his love of Italian food as well as taking long naps, will be bringing with him a list of moves inspired by his cartoon strip. In the trailer, Garfield is seen wearing a cane and top, eating lasagna and roaming free with wild cats. It’s clear that he has a lot of sass. We’ll have to wait for the full character breakdown for his release this week to find out if he’s any good. Garfield must be ready to play this game, as he has been playing edgeguard for Odie for over 40 years.

In October I wrote a review of Nick Brawl. I was impressed by its solid but flawed platform fighter. Below is a portion of the review.

The way Nick Brawl plays is my favorite thing about it. There are buttons to jump, attack, block, special moves and throws. The goal of the game is to throw at your opponent and make their damage more frequent. If they’re hit with an attack, it will increase their chances of flying off. Characters move quickly, which made me worry that I wouldn’t always feel in control, but the snappy and responsive inputs alleviated those worries in practice. Wavedashing and other advanced techniques are easy to do, and the quicker tempo makes it simple to create combos in a hurry.

Garfield is the first of two characters that Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will be free. Another unknown character may follow in the near future. Fair Play Labs and Ludosity are both working on paid DLC fighters.

Is it possible to take control of Garfield, terrorizing other competitors? Which feline voice is your favorite? And why Garfield and Friends’ rendition is so popular? Comment below.
