Fortnite Is Getting A New Ranked Mode

Fortnite will soon have ranked play. In a post published on Saturday, it was revealed that Fortnite’s team would implement the mode with the next 24.40 patch, which will include eight ranks for players to progress through. If Epic keeps to their usual schedule, the mode is expected to come this week, but a date has yet to be formally announced.

From the main menu, you can toggle Ranked play on or off. There are no major differences in gameplay between unranked and ranked play except that rated is generally more competitive. However, this could change. In fact, most details about Ranked Play are not concrete, as Epic says this mode is going to be the start of Ranked Season Zero, so they can “make any adjustments to issues and concerns that arise, while also working on additional features and overall improvements for when Ranked starts following the normal Battle Royale Season schedule.”

Both Battle Royale, and Zero Build (its popular alternate), will have ranked play. There will be separate rankings for each game mode. Currently, Ranked Play will only be available in certain sizes of parties. In Battle Royale, you can play Solos, Duos, and Party (this excludes trios), and in Zero Build, you can only play duos. Season Zero of Ranked Play will end at the same time as Season One (early in June). Hopefully, this means that more options for parties are available by then.

Fortnite will no longer have an Arena Mode. Except for the Console Champion Cup, none of the other tournaments in this season will require you to be Ranked. Epic is yet to reveal what “other factors” will determine your eligibility for future tournaments.
