Fantastic Four movie cast, release date, and everything we know so far

Finally, all four members of the Fantastic Four will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Over the years, there’s been some teases and little drips of information about Marvel’s “First Family.” But with a release date finally on the ever expanding Marvel movie release calendar and a director in the talks, a third incarnation of the property seems to be finally actually happening. Here’s everything we know about the Fantastic Four movie, which we will continue to update as more information is revealed.

What date is Fantastic Four coming out?

An announcement was made at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con. The Fantastic Four movie will launch Phase 6 of Marvel Cinematic Universe on Nov. 8, 2024.

Who directs?

In 2020, Marvel studio head Kevin Feige announced Spider-Man Homecoming’s Jon Watts would helm the movie. Watts took a step back from superhero movies in April 2022. On August 26th, WAndavision and It’s Always Sunny in PhiladelphiaMatt Shakman, director of the movie was in negotiations to take over. Everyone who was mistaken for Steven Spielberg. might actually take the job.

Who’s been cast?

Although no one has been officially cast, persistent rumors continue about who the leading contenders are for the role. It is possible to Gossip Girl’Rumours keep surfacing about Penn Badgley. Online betting sites provide odds for which actors are most likely to get cast. John David Washington, Dan Stevens and Anthony Ramos are the frontrunners to play Reed Richards. Johnny Storm’s odds of being cast rest with Zac Efron or Anthony Ramos. Samara Weaving and Lily James are popular options for Sue Storm (though Emily Blunt, back when John Krasinski wasn’t a frontrunner, was). Stephen Graham and Dean Norris were top choices for the Thing.

The only thing we know for sure is who the other person is NotGoing to be appearing in the film. Anybody from the Fantastic Four movies can be excluded, including Chris Evans and Michael B. Jordan. They both played Johnny Storm (aka the Human Torch) and they both play other characters in MCU. Also, The Office’s John Krasinski portrayed an alternate universe Reed Richards in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of MadnessHowever, it is likely that he won’t reprise his main MCU role.

Wait, hasn’t there already been a Fantastic Four movie?

There have been multiple Fantastic Four movies — but no official entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet. Unreleased versions of the 1994 movie were also available. A 2005 film starring Jessica Alba (and Chris Evans) was released in 2007. The sequel to this version came out in 2007. Fox also attempted to produce a Fantastic Four film in 2015. The movie did not turn out to be a success.

Hence, it is a mystery why this took so long.

Well, for a long time, Disney didn’t legally own some of the A-list Marvel characters, including X-Men, Deadpool, and the Fantastic Four. The MCU couldn’t even use Spider-Man till 2016, since the character belongs to Sony.

The 2017 Disney acquisition of 21st Century Fox was announced by Bob Iger (then-Disney CEO) that the X-Men would soon be integrated into Disney’s MCU. The acquisition was finalized in March 2019 and during that year’s San Diego Comic Con, Marvel studio head Kevin Feige officially announced the Fantastic Four film.
