Elden Ring Patch Brings Buffs, Nerfs, Additional Map Options, New Quest Phases, And More

Bandai Namco and From Software announced yesterday that Elden Ring has already sold more than 12 million copies, revealing that the companies are planning to extend the brand beyond just video games. From Software just released patch 1.03 of Elden Ring. This update brings numerous improvements to the action-RPG. 

There are some big changes within Patch 1.03 and depending on your current build and what you’ve been looking for in Elden Ring, you’re going to love or hate this patch. That’s because on one hand, it adds new map functionality, NPCs, additional NPC quest phases, and more. This patch also nerfs certain player-favorite skills and weapons like the Sword of Night and Flame and Hoarfrost Stmp. (Plus, the excellent Mimic Tear Ash summon has been nerfed). This patch is now available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S (PS4), PlayStation 4 Xbox One, as well as PC. 

These are the main changes to Patch 1.03 

Additional Elements

  • A function was added to allow you to save an icon as well as the name of NPCs on your map, when you come across them.
  • Jar-Bairn NPC Added
  • This update adds new quest phases to the NPCs below: Diallos/ Nepheli Loux/ Kenneth Haight/ Gatekeeper Gostoc.
  • Some summonable NPCs were added in multiple circumstances.
  • Increased the number of patterns of objects player can imitate when using Mimic’s Veil.
  • Night background music added for open-field areas

Bug fixed

  • A bug was fixed that prevents NPCs who are summoned from taking any damage in boss battles.
  • A bug was fixed that prevented players from getting items after boss battles.
  • A bug was fixed that caused dialogue to skip when speaking to NPCs or using customized key configurations.
  • Fixed an issue that made it possible for the player to stop riding when they freeze.
  • A bug was fixed that caused arcane scale wrongly on some weapons.
  • When the player can’t get more than two talisman pockets, they may add another talisman pouch at Twin Maiden Husks.
  • Fixes a bug which prevented users from going to places of grace after they had completed the game.
  • Fixes a bug which prevented players from moving on to the next area following a battle with Fire Giant.
  • Corrected a bug that caused some weapons not to scale correctly after they were strengthened.
  • This bug was corrected and some weapons are now unable to scale stats.
  • Fixed hangups for certain occasions
  • Corrected a bug in which multiplayer area boundaries were incorrectly shown when online gaming.
  • Fixed a bug that allows player to activate Erdtree Greatshield’s weapon skill without absorbing an attack using a special combination of item and incantation.
  • Fixed a bug which causes Fire’s Deadly Sin incantation to have different effect.
  • A bug was fixed with Ash of War, Determination, Royal Knight’s Resolve. The damage buff now applies to all weapons that have this skill.
  • The visual effects of Unseen Form spell were adjusted.
  • Removed Ragged Armor Set from game. It was incorrectly available in an earlier patch.
  • A bug was fixed that allowed some NPCs to drop Furlcalling Finger Remedy.
  • A bug was fixed that could cause an incorrect sound effect in certain circumstances.
  • A bug was fixed that causes hitboxes and visual animation to not display correctly on maps.
  • Fixed bugs can cause some enemies to behave and see incorrectly.
  • Corrected a bug in which some armor’s stat parameters were incorrect.
  • Text fix.
  • Performance improvements and bug fixes.

Balance changes

  • For some enemies, the drop rate for Smithing Stone has been increased.
  • Smithing Stone was added to the early game shop line-up.
  • Increased shield’s effectiveness.
  • All offensive cracked pots are now at greater risk.
  • The following items have suffered increased damage: Spark Aromatic/Poison spraymist.
  • Possible increase in the duration of effects for these items: Ironjar Aromatic/Uplifting Aromatic.
  • You can get a higher HP for your Torrent by using these items: Frozen Raisin/ Sweet Raisin/ Rowa Rasin
  • The following sorceries suffered increased damage due to FP consumptionGlintstone Cometshard/ Night Comet
  • The damage from the next sorceries is increasedGravity Well/ Collapsing Stars/ Crystal Barrage
  • Reduced FP consumption for the following sorceries: Star Shower/ Rock Blaster/ Gavel of Haima/ Founding Rain of Stars/ Stars of Ruin/Greatblade Phalanx/Magic Downpour/ Loretta’s Greatbow/ Loretta’s Mastery/ Carian Greatsword/ Carian Piercer/ Shard Spiral
  • Great Glintstone Shard: Increased projectile speed and greater range
  • Reduced damage from Hoarfrost Stomp and Ash of War; increase casting time.
  • Increased Ash of War and Bloody Slash’s self inflict damage, while slighty lowering damage and increasing cast time
  • Decreased weapon skill, Sword of Night and Flame’s damage.
  • Increased FP consumption, lower Ash of War, Barricade Shield duration.
  • Changed FP consumption timing of Ash of War, Prelate’s Charge.
  • Decreased the damage of spirit summoned when using the item Mimic Tear Ash and changed the spirit’s behavior pattern.
  • Changes in weapon and enemy balance
