Dungeons & Dragons Lego Ideas set celebrates the RPG’s 50th anniversary

Lego is joining in on the celebration of Dungeons & Dragons’ 50th anniversary with an elegant new set. Following a call to submissions in November for designs, Thursday’s fan-made Lego Ideas design was accepted. The set will soon enter development, with the goal of becoming a retail product. The announcement did not include pricing or a launch date, however you can rest assured that the design may change.

The creator of this submissions is Lucas “BoltBuilds” Bolt, an amateur Lego designer and a nine-year veteran environmental artist for Guerilla Games (Horizon Zero Dawn). With this November entry, they joined Lego Ideas and submitted the winning entry. It is made up of approximately 3,000 pieces.

You can play the multi-level scene from 360°. It features five minifigs and a dragon. There is also a hidden party with a beholder. The Witches Tower is one of the landmarks. The Tavern, The Dungeon and The Crypt are others.

The set’s charm has multiple expressions, including the big whimsical eyes on that beholder and the cleverly textured backside of the piece, where the cavern seamlessly blends into the structure of the tower. But for my money, I’m all about that tree out front. It will look great with my classic Forrestmen sets.

Yes, my childhood Lego is still there. I also have Dirk Fozbim, my first D&D character (tinker gnome) as well, and I’ll be pitting the garrison from the Black Monarch’s Castle against his one-inch incarnation some time in the 2024 window most likely. That’s when Wizards of the Coast has said it will celebrate the game’s half-century of existence.

The set’s release date has not been revealed. For details on all the other submissions — including a stunning cut-away version of The Yawning Portal — head to Lego Ideas.
